What about the spot that used to be Circles/Windsor Chophouse in Bartel Pritchard Square?
It seems like it's been well over a year since they closed. At first there seemed to be regular work and I heard some buzz that it was going to become a sports bar. Then I heard there was a big landlord-tenant debacle. Not sure what's true, but it's a shame to see such a prime location going to waste...

I will always remember the Alamo. One day I was drinking there with a bunch a mathematicians and they messed up the tip calculation. The waitress ran after us wanting to know what she did to offend us. We gave her an extra 20 to atone for our gaffe. The lesson is to never trust anyone with a PhD in math to do arithmetic.

My recollection is that a rent dispute led to the Alamo's demise.

I heard some Mexicans took it over.

Sorry for the above. Good story about the PhDs.

No, but I just came to post about cleaners. The corner spot on 8th st and 7th ave where the Cabinet place was, across the street from a cleaners, is going to be a cleaners according to workers in the store.

There is a also a new cleaners right next to the old La Bagel Delight place on 7th ave and 5th st which still has not been rented. Course I can't imagine many people wanting to be across from John Jay.

Are dry cleaners becoming the new phone store?

the space on 7th avenue between lincoln and berkeley which used to be trade winds (furniture) is becoming a beauty salon. it's a nice space in a nice building, so i have to assume that it might be high end-ish...?

According to Mrs. Lee from the bodega across the street, the landlord for Hudson Cleaner wants to raise the rent for the entire space to $20,000/month which would make it impossible for Hudson Cleaner to continue operating. But the space can be divided into 2 halves. I asked the lady owner of Hudson Cleaner yesterday about the sign, and she just said that they will half their space and continue to operate.

On another note, is the bodega on 7th Ave between 10th and 11th closed all of a sudden?

Peppermill is closed for major renovations until early to mid-Sept. They're expanding further back in the space, adding a sandwich counter and more good stuff. I miss their coffee already.

I think the 7th Ave Donuts from down the street will be moving into that spot. I think there was some discussion about it in another thread a while back.
