Holy shit. This is interesting.
Sen. John McCain has chosen Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice-presidential candidate on the Republican ticket for the White House, CNN has learned. The 44-year-old Palin, now in her first term as governor, is a pioneering figure in Alaska, the first woman and the youngest person to hold the state's top political job.

    oh, man. this is going to get ugly, isn't it?

    obama needs to get on the stick about courting hillary voters, yesterday.

    once i heard her name in consideration, i thought she would be the smart pick for the same reason i always assumed the republicans would be the first to nominate a woman or minority for president: they have the most voters to gain.

    She has been named chair of the National Governors Association's Natural Resources Committee. That panel is focused on legislation to ensure that federal policies take state priorities into account in agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management.
    And ... a lifetime NRA member, of course. :mrgreen:

    Sounds like her stance is more pro-oil and gas than anti-polar bear. FWIW.

    So does that make the flower-corsage-thingy good or bad?

    I have to admit, it _does_ frighten me a little...

    The first thing _I_ thought was that he was playing to Obama's inexperience and fresh ideas, as in, "Hey look, I gots that too!"

    For sure - this is a 100% anti-choice, born-again Christian, card-carrying member of the NRA who wants to drill Alaska into Swiss cheese - with less experience than any other possible candidate for anything.

    Honestly, the more I hear about her, the more badass she is appearing. Which isn't to say that I agree with her politically, 'cause I don't. But I'm a bit impressed thus far in general.

    and, yellow-dog democrat that i am, i've been feeling REALLY angry about the inevitable penis parade that is presidential politics. this won't by any means convince me to vote for bush III, but i'm afraid obama is dangerously underestimating the post-hillary female anger out there.
