    Idiocracy

It was on HBO, so I can't claim to have rented this one. It is really silly but hiralious. It's set in the future, where stupid people have out-reproduced smart people. Great for a laugh. Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph are the leads.

That sounds like a prediction, not a premise for a movie!

So many lol moments... There's a great one involving automated voice-recognition services. Classic--it's just like trying to use the TWC one.
    For service say, "service".
    "Service".
"You said billing, is that correct?"
    "No"
    and on and on...

Oh come on! Now that's just real life!

Oh, shit! It's already happened!

I just joined Netflix - after rating about 200 movies, I have about 700 recommendations from them... I think that I already have 70 in queue  Not necessarily a bad thing with winter on the way! Also, I didn't have time for it this weekend, but I'm eager to try the direct download viewing.

Netflix rocks! But direct download only seems to work on PCs, not Macs.

I've been making my way through Season 4 of 24.

Netflix is doing okay on recs, but I still use
    http://movielens.umn.edu/login
for my movie rating and such. I've seen tons of awesome flicks that I would have never found otherwise, based on movielens recommendations.

Little Otik. Movielens rec'd that one and as weird as it was, I will never forget that strange flick.

I just watched the movie "Tiger and the Snow". The same guy who did "Life is Beautiful". Totally check it out... not as heavy as Life. There were some really sweet moments when he is professing (spelling?) his love to his wife in the movie (real-life wife).

    I'm Reed Fish -

A small town radio host is content with life (essentially filling his deceased father's shoes) and love (engaged to the town hottie) until a girl from his past returns.

(Somewhat romantic) Comedy. Understated, well done and with a little twist to keep things interesting.

La Vie en Rose (La Mome) - Edith Piaf's life-story. Relatively unknown actress Marion Cotillard plays Piaf - amazing acting - heart-breaking story. Well worth watching. It's a long film but I hardly noticed, I was so engrossed...

I had wanted to see that when it was at BAM, but couldn't convince Mrs. C to go.

Agreed - very good movie and I didn't see it until fairly recently, either - Mrs. W don't do violent movies.

speaking of, you might have warned me about "Green Street Hooligans"

Paprika is a good one from Netflix (tagline: This is your brain on anime.)
if you like a clever demented parade marching through a dream psychiatry clinic and taking over the researchers . . .

It has "Hooligans" in the title and you need to be warned about violence? :P

It's not on DVD yet, but I just saw Lars and the Real Girl tonight - definitely worth renting. Between this and Half Nelson, I'm pretty impressed with Ryan Gosling.

    Never thought I'd say that...

yeah, go figure about that Gosling

As for hooligans, that's such an AfterSchool Special sort of word that I didn't expect Fight Club. :D
Another movie that's pretty incredible in theaters now, is
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
    I loved Before Night Falls
Julian Schnabel is a genius when it comes to adaptations, and intense freaky beautiful difficult stuff, with bonus points for the Johnny Depp cameos
    :D

    "Gone, Baby, Gone"
Just watched that last night! Love the casting and how they nail white working class Boston...reminded me of that great book by Michael Patrick MacDonald "All Souls: A Family Story from Southie" with the sympathetic knowing of the f*ked up lives of these people...
but "Gone, Baby, Gone" -- as refreshing as the authenticity is -- I soooooo didn't buy the twisted narrative reveals, none of which we can talk about here without blowing the movie for everybody else that has not seen it...
blarh. The Morgan Freeman character bugged me. It's like they got everyone else right but him.

You could post the comment in white like this:

WARNING: SPOILERS!! (highlight to read, or squint your eyes and look really closely)

This is where you would type your spoilers if you were so inclined.

That way, people wouldn't read it by accident. They'd have to make an effort to read it.

when the background to the webpage is gray, some of us can read the white type plain as day.

    just sayin'.

It's true that it's visible without highlighting, but it doesn't exactly jump out at you. You're not going to read it by accident.

OK, stickler, I have a better idea.

Do exactly as I said above but put quote tags around it so the background is white. Like this:

    Revival thread!

I saw "Into the Wild" this weekend. Very well done.

On the opposte side of the spectrum, I'm watching "Meatballs" right now. I love Bill Murray - and a month ago we were checking into the same hotel at the same time. I did a double take....had no entourage, carrying his own bags, very low-key.

Watched King of California last night - the wife and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
