Anyone recommended by Rush Limbaugh and approved by James Dobson comes with a "lemon" sticker. My opinion of Palin has gone from bad to worse. I was initially disturbed by the social conservatism and Assemblies of God fundamentalism; by the 'use' of family (including the triumphant narrative of the unwed pregnant daughter) for political advancement; by the Reaganite populist rhetoric.
As more 'facts' have emerged that don't jibe with the puffed up resume supplied by the Republican party, I have a vision of a horror movie sequel to Bush in Baghdad and his doppelganger in competence, 'Brownie" at FEMA. The idea that McCain would foist Palin on the entire nation (rather than letting her apply her skills within the confines of Alaska) would be risible if the prospect of her as VP weren't so appalling (so appalling that I could imagine longing for Cheney). -

She still can't take unscripted questions from reporters. She's been on the "job" for a month.
Country first*
*winning elections -
She has every right to fear the reporters; it its no secret that there is a lot of witchcraft being practiced by the members of liberal media these days.
From NY Daily News:
"Sarah Palin once blessed to be free from 'witchcraft'"

The Pastor was from Kenya, making it a rather obvious Obama plot.
Besides, you say it like being free from witchcraft is a _bad_ thing!

In a normal country, a nominee as unqualified as Palin to appear in public (let alone hold national office) would automatically make McCain lose.
Although that may be happening as we speak.
She thinks seeing Siberia from her back yard counts as foreign policy experience.

But- Palin is the most popular Governor in the United States!
-
I read today that a majority of alaskans don't think she's qualified to be VP.
-
Palin's pastor (that she not only sat and listened to for years but came up on stage with and received a special prayer from) blames the Jews for the current economic problems:
Where's the outrage? Where are the calls for her to "distance herself" from her pastor and condemn him? -
Don't worry, the media and certain people here aren't wildly hypocritical.

Who is the video of? Larry Kroon? David Brickner? Ed Kalnin? Tim McGraw?
Honestly, her associations with any of them are far more tenuous than Obama's Rev. Wright connection, and I would probably reserve attacks on her via them for in case the Rev. Wright thing rears its head again. Otherwise it would almost be like holding open the door for the repug's to reiterate Obama's tight long standing connections with Wright and his views, which I believe would cause more harm to Obama than would be done to Palin in such an exchange.

There was nothing tenuous about the connection. This is the same guy that she's appeared with in dozens of videos that have appeared online in the last few weeks.

I agree about the last part, but mostly because I think many of Palin's supporters will share her preacher's anti-semitic views. -

Probably right, but that doesn't make some people any less hypocritical.

Which guy? To the best of my knowledge, I don't think she's stuck with _any_ church more than a few years. Which would seem to at least make her connection more distant than Obama/Wright, given the decades that Obama was there, naming a book after a sermon of his, repeatedly citing him as an inspiration, etc.
Which isn't saying that I buy into the whole Obama/Wright thing or anything, I'm just saying that there is _much_ more of a connection between those two than Palin and any of the four I have mentioned. And I would guess that your video is of one of those four, I'm just wondering which one. Since I am technologically deficient (but NOT like McCain!) and can't see it...Carnivore wrote: I agree about the last part, but mostly because I think many of Palin's supporters will share her preacher's anti-semitic views.
Well, _that_ is quite a DOWNER!
BTW, isn't Rev. Wright, whose supporters are in all likelihood Obama supporters, a pretty antisemitic fellow himself? FWIW. -
Oh my, this column is pretty hardcore. Palin in Legally Blonde, and the "fairy tales spin around the idea that, because Elle believes in herself, she can do anything."
Judith Warner wrote: Real life is different, of course, from Hollywood fantasy. Incompetence has consequences, political and personal. Glorifying or glamorizing the sense of just not being up to the tasks of life has consequences, too. It means that any woman who exudes competence will necessarily be excluded from the circle of sisterhood. We can’t afford any more of that.
Poor Sarah, by Judith Warner - NY Times blog.
Frankly, I’ve come to think, post-Kissinger, post-Katie-Couric, that Palin’s nomination isn’t just an insult to the women (and men) of America. It’s an act of cruelty toward her as well. -
I'm just a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....
If you grew up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic & different."
If you grew up in Alaska eating moose burgers, it's the quintessential American story.
If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
If you name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.
If you graduated from Harvard law School, you are unstable.
If you attended 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're
well grounded.
If you spent 3 years as a community organizer, became the first black
President of the Harvard Law Review, created a voter registration drive
that registered 150,000 new voters, spent 12 years as a Constitutional
Law professor, spent eight years as a State Senator representing a district with over
750,000 people, became chairman of the State Senate's Health and Human Services
committee, spent four years in the United States
Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131
bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and
Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership
experience.
If your total resume includes a stint as the local weather girl, four
years on the city council & six years as the mayor of a town with less
than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000
people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest
ranking executive, and next in line behind a man in his eighth decade.
If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2
daughters, then you don't understand "family values."
If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then left
your disfigured wife and married the heiress the following month, then
you're a champion of "family values."
If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the
proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
If, while a Governor, you staunchly advocated abstinence only, with no
other option in sex education in your state's school system, while unwed teenage
daughter got pregnant, you're very responsible.
If your wife is a Harvard Law graduate who gave up a career with a
prestigious law firm, so she could work for the betterment of her
community, and then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values
don't represent America's.
If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude," has at least one DUI
conviction, no college education, didn't register to vote until age 25 and
once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA,
your family's values are in touch with the nation's.
OK, much clearer now. -
Whatchuwant, great post. It this didn't have such dire consequences it would actually be really funny.
-
its all an excercise in labeling your opponent as being something that you yourself are.
That way, you can say "hey, I called you that first. You can't call me that"
...it would be funny if I wasn't worried about people falling for it. -
You’re right. The republicans have the motto that if they repeat their lies and seemingly ridiculous enough, people will start believing them. Unfortunately, it looks like they are right.

What happened to the ubiquitous special needs baby? Is he also not allowed to speak spontaneously with the media?

Let's focus on the special needs mom talking to the media first. -
I think I'm in love with Jack Cafferty.

Great article about what the enthusiasm for Palin says about us as a country. -
This one is hilarious, inspired by Matt Damon's comparison of the hockey mom going to the White House to "a bad Disney movie."
