THIS IS TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HATE ON THE METS.

    WAY TO GO, TIGERS!!

    EVERYONE.. ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!! :)

  • Happy Sunday all!

Patsy, I am not a real Yankee fan. In fact untill 1958 I was an avid Brooklyn Dodger fan. In the 60's and on I rooted for the Mets but never had the same feeling as I did for the BROOKLYN DODGERS. Never the LA Dodgers. As you can imagine, being an old Brooklyn Dodger fan I was a Yankee hater. However, since I have lived in Florida I have found that most people here have a dislike for anything New York. As a result, I find myself even rooting for the Yankees that I used to hate with a passion. Not a fan but I guess you could call me a supporter of sorts. The Mets this year were not much to root for. They were out of the pennant race real early in the season. At least the Yankees made it to the playoffs and then stunk the place out. I do give credit to the Yankee organization for pouring a lot of their money into the team. Also, every hick town in the American League should kiss the Yankees feet as they derive a great percentage of their income from the games the Yankees play in their towns. The Tampa Bay Rays are an excellent example. They field a good team and have the second worst attendence in Baseball. If the Yankees and Red Sox did not play here they would be absolutely broke. On top of that the Yankees have to pay the small town teams a penalty for the amount of their payroll. The Rays won 93 games this year and except for Yankee & Red Sox games they drew about 11,000 people a game. No I do not love the Yankees, never will, but I think they mean an awful lot to the sport of Baseball. :-00

EVERYONE.. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! :)

  • Patsy, I understand your feelings. In the 40's especially the Yankees beat the Dodgers in several World Series when the Dodgers had the better team on paper. Remember the old Brooklyn Dodger saying "Wait til next year". Finally in 1955 "next year" came. The Dodgers beat the Yankees and then that bum O'Malley took them to California a couple of years later. I have never rooted for them since the move. No matter who they are playing. Then I rooted for the horrible Mets of the early 60's. I even went to see them when they played in the DUMP called the Polo Grounds before Shea was built. Some of their players could not catch a fly ball or hit the side of a barn with their bats. Then came the days of Tommie Agee, Cleon Jones, Ron Swaboda, Bud Harrelson,Seaver & Koosman etc:.I took my oldest son and even the whole family to Shea. I also would go on Bus trips to Shea with organizations and the local saloons when they ran trips. One of the reasons I follow the Yankees down here is that they are on TV here much more then the Mets. They also have their spring training right here in Tampa.

By the way, as much as George Steinbrenner was hated around the country he was loved here for all his civc & charitable work! 8O

  • Hello All,

Patsy, Does the sun ever shine up there anymore? According to our papers the NYC area is having clouds or showers just about every day!!!

Terry, good to see you on here. Being a Care Giver is a full time job! Taking care of Mike, the grandkids, the house and now your knee!!! Put in for overtime pay. I do not know who will pay it but put the bill into someone. #-o

  • Hi All.....

Blood work has been steady so they're gonna keep me on 5mg. Going tomorrow for another blood check.

Warren are you in the path of hurricane Sandy? They say its gonna be a big storm...we're gonna get some bad weather from it also.

Terry...hang in there. Hope Mike heals fast. Let us know how you're appt for your knee goes, good luck!!

Patsy...would you believe I was in bed all day yesterday from that migraine :-( I feel better today but not much.

    Hi Anna and Judy!!

  • Debbie, That storm is going no where near us. It is off the East coast of Florida. The East coast will have some rain, wind and waves but we will get nothing but some wind from the outer bands and maybe a few rain showers. I have to go for a PT/INR test tomorrow because I am on Antibiotics and that can cause the level to rise. Under normal circumstances I go once a month unless I get a test too high or too low. As I mentioned last week I get the results immediately after the nurse pricks my finger. I was 2.4 two weeks ago but then I went on the Anti-biotics so to be on the safe side they will test it again. I am on 7.5 five days a week and 5.0 two days. Carol gets Migraines but she has Imitrex and that usually takes care of the pain in a couple of hours. Sometimes nothing works. #-o

    Hi Anna,Cuz and all

I talk to Umbria often. He always calls. He sounds good.

Hope you are better Deb. I know those headaches, they are horrible....

Good night Sweet Dreams Love you all...

  • Terry, Sounds like you need a Union and a good Shop Steward to bargain for you!!! All kidding aside, your family should realize how good it is to have someone who will perform all the duties you are doing. If they had to pay for private nurses, baby sitters, cab drivers etc: they would all be broke in no time!

Some advice to you Northeners from a Floridian. (Truly a transported Northener though). While you have the time this AM look around your property for anything loose. That includes flower pots. They make a hell of a missle in strong winds. Move breakable things away from your windows. Be sure your garage doors are down and supported some how. (I have bars that line up vertically from top to bottom and I put them up whenever there is a storm warning. Brackets had to be installed on top of the wall and holes in the garage floor receive bullet like pieces form the bars Something to think about for the future.)

Be sure there is a clear path for water to run away from your homes. If there is a brook any wheres near your property be sure it is clear of debris to avoid an overflow. During the storm stay away from windows and doors. DO NOT go out in the storm unless it is an emergency. (Getting a pack of cigarettes is NOT an emergency!!!)

Good luck and I hope all of you (as well as our familes up there) come through this with no damage to people or property [-oB

  • Hi all

Well we cleared off our porch earlier and took in everything we could, but it's still pretty scary. They called Kevin in to work tonight, he's sanitation. As with snowstorms, every one is urged to stay home and he's forced to work lol But that we're used to. I heard some area's in brooklyn and staten island are being evacuated. They even closed the schools which is rare and tomorrow my son was taking graduation pictures lol I even got him to get a haircut for it!!

Warren its definitely not something we are used to. Snowstorms yes, but not hurricanes.

Patsy no bus or train tomorrow either so I guess you won't be working.

Judy and Terry I hope you don't lose power :-/ I know that's a big possibility. My in-laws are in NJ and they were told they may be without power for a few days.

Annahope you're enjoying shopping and lunch!!

    Hope everyone is safe

  • One thing I forgot to mention the other day. If you have a pool, especially above ground, lower your water level if you have not already done so.Also, if you sustain a power outage do not go fiddling around with your circuit breaker or fuse box. Water & electricity do not mix well. Open your refrig/freezer as little as possible. If you have not accomplishe this yet, do it while you still have time. Freeze a few containers of water and put them in your freezer. That will extend the life of your food should power go out.

NY is at a stand still! No trains or busses and if you try to drive anywhere near the waterfront you are nuts. If the subways flood there will be no trains for a few days!I guess the best advice is to get out the cards or games andplay them till the crises passes. Good luck!!! [-oB

  • I do not know if many of you will get to read this for a couple of days. All my Children in North Jersey are without power and phones. We at least have now heard from each of them one way or another. We were able to get through to Carol's sister in Long Island and she is okay. The only one yet not accounted for is Carol's brother in Brooklyn on 13th street. I spoke to him yesterday and they were okay but who knows what happened overnight. What a mess!!! I am sure it could have been worse. We hope that each of you and yours are okay and you are in our prayers and thoughts. [-oB

  • Hi Warren....We were very lucky here in bay ridge and most of brooklyn too. Many downed trees, some on houses but not nearly as bad as it could've been for us. My brother in Staten Island is without power and has a tree that hit the power line in front of his house. My brother in NJ has no power either but thankfully no damage or flooding.

Hope everyone here is ok, Terry in Staten Island and Judy in NJ

New Jersey was declared a disaster area...very sad.

  • Hi Deb, Please do not tell the people in Coney Island that Brooklyn was not hit bad. All of my children in NJ are safe. No damage from wind or water. One son does not have power yet but my other son and my daughter had it restored last night. The majority of the damage in NJ is on the shore. They were lying about the A.C. boardwalk. Only one small section was damaged. The Casinos only had minor damage. I have not heard anything about Cape May NJ yet. I am sure they were hit hard. Toms River was also damaged a lot. I think that the Rockaways (including Breezy Point), Coney Island, Seagate, and any othe area on the ocean had it the worst. They just announced that the B'klyn Battery Tunnel may not be reopened until after Thanksgiving. Staten Island is a disaster area. I hope Terry and any other blog members on Staten Island are okay.

Great Kills in particular was shown a lot with the damage. Roof tops sitting in a park!!! My kids (I still call them kids even though one is 51, another 50 and the youngest is 46.) Our 7 grandchildren range in age from 9-21.

I am praying for all those affected and I hope that none of our families or friends have been hit hard. [-oB

  • HI GUYS..

    THANK GOD, WE SURVIVED!!!

IT WAS PRETTY BAD. WE WERE LUCKY. NO DAMAGE AT ALL!!

PRAYERS & LOTS OF THEM TO FAMILIES WHO LOST EVERYTHING OR

    LOVED ONES.!! [-oB [-oB.

BREEZY POINT. WHAT DEVASTATION..I HOPE THEY GET HELP

IMMEDIATELY..A WHOLE COMMUNTIY BURNED OUT. MAY THE GOOD LORD GUIDE THEM THRU!!

EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT DAY, STAY SAFE & SAY A PRAYER ..

  • Hello all who have electricity,

My oldest son in Wanaque NJ got his power back about an hour ago. All the rest of the family got their's back one at a time or never lost it. Carol's brother in Brooklyn (13th st) never lost power and is fine. Her sister in Amityville is fine. Just heard NYC schools are closed the rest of the week and will reopen Monday. When I went to the NYC schools growing up the only time the schools closed was in 1947 when we had a couple of feet of snow.

Patsy, years ago we had friends who had a bungalow in Breezy Point. At that time it was strictly summer bungalows and no cars were allowed near the houses. You parked in a lot on Jamaica bay or came by boat from Sheepshead bay. From there you walked to the bungalow. Obviously it has changed a great deal. The bungalow my friends had was 3 buildings from the beach! There were NO two story buildings and one shopping area with an A&P and a few other stores. You took a kids red wagon from the Bungalow and went shopping after a 15 minute walk..Times sure change things!!!!
