  • So Palin's church took down their videos of her speaking, but Fark is hosting this one, with her talking about God's plan for us to invade Iraq:

  • Really, is that all you have? Name one thing the Messiah has run or governed or accomplished? Oh that's right, when asked by Newt Gingrich the Nobama campaign said he's run his own campaign ahahaha

Here's another brilliant Newt spot where the reporter can't answer his questions.

I think James Carville put that argument to bed:

Alaska Party Official Says Palin Was Not a Member
    By The New York Times

The chairwoman of an Alaskan political party that advocates a vote on the state’s secession from the union said Tuesday that she had been mistaken when she said Gov. Sarah Palin was a member of the group.

A front-page story in The New York Times on Tuesday and articles in other news media reported that Ms. Palin was a member of the Alaska Independence Party for two years in the 1990’s.

The information in the Times article was based on a statement issued Monday night by Lynette Clark, the party’s chairwoman, who said that Ms. Palin joined the party in 1994 and in 1996 changed her registration to Republican.

On Tuesday night, Ms. Clark said that her initial statement was incorrect and had been based on erroneous information provided by another member of the party whom she declined to identify. The McCain campaign also disputed the Times report, saying that Ms. Palin had been registered consistently as a Republican.

After checking the party’s archives, Ms. Clark said that she could find no documentation that Governor Palin had been a member of the party. She said Ms. Palin attended the party’s 1994 and 2006 conventions and provided a video-taped address as governor to the 2008 convention.

Ms. Clark said that Ms. Palin’s husband, Todd, was a former member of the party.
Carnivore wrote: [quote=eggcream]Surely you don't believe everything you read? It's another false story in the NYT. Palin was never a member of the AIP party.

[quote=Carnivore][quote=Boygabriel]haha. Palin might get dumped by week's end.

She hates America worse than you thought Michelle Obama did.
Right? She actually belonged to a group that was trying to secede from U.S.

I don't think anyone who wants to secede from the U.S. should be running it. Surely you agree, eggcream...
Are you fucking kidding me? This is well documented. She was in that group for seven years.

Even Noonan, Repug booster and apologist extraordinaire, knows Palin is a losing pick.
  • I can't remember where I saw it, but I think the deal was that her husband was a member of AIP, and she did a video greeting to them for their last convention or something like that.

Yeah, the AIP seems like a totally trustworthy organization with no stake in this at all. I'm sure we can take their word for it.

And she attended the convention twice and addressed it once despite never having been a member?

    Don't think so...
  • James Carville helpfully told Eleanor Clift of Newsweek that if Hillary gave Obama one of her vehicles of testicular fortitude, “they’d both have two.”
Carnivore wrote: [quote=eggcream]Really, is that all you have? Name one thing the Messiah has run or governed or accomplished? Oh that's right, when asked by Newt Gingrich the Nobama campaign said he's run his own campaign ahahaha
I think James Carville put that argument to bed:

  • But Carville offered this thought about Obama's current political status (note that he does give the Illinois senator some props):

"He had the greatest fastball anybody had seen, and now it's 'Hey man, can you throw a change-up?' He needs another pitch in his repertoire."

    Yeah, sounds like presidential material.

I think someone needs to explain to you the concept of metaphor.

  • I just saw the Palin speech last night.
I have to say she was pretty impressive.

It was a speech geared towards the republican base and think she nailed it.
I' not sure she could have done much better than last night for people who were in doubt about her.

Ideology aside, I have to give here credit.

did the speech have any ideology? did she talk about any issues? I'm honestly asking.

besides drilling and lower taxes (even though she raised taxes in her little village), what does she stand for?

    anyone know?
  • She is a mean-spirited, scary, evil, bit bull who will rip your heart out if given the chance -

Why ya gotsta go and bring Hillary into this?
  • Sarah Palin rocked. Ya'll are screwed.

    Yes.

    Yes.
    I'm honestly asking.
    Hmm.
    besides drilling and lower taxes
Those issues and their offshoots were basically it, as far as direct issues. Other things were mentioned and passing, and a lot of ideology.
(even though she raised taxes in her little village),
Not true. I assume you speak of the police/infrastructure sales tax that has been bandied about. That was put in place by the council as she was coming into office from her predecessor, although she did support it. By most accounts, it was a rousing success that has fueled a near doubling of population for the village in the last eight years, and made it a center of commerce. The revenues generated it allowed her to continue increasing services while property taxes by 75% and eliminating personal property taxes.

    *shrug*

I'm not a cheerleader, because I fucking hate Walmart and all that sort of shit that she brought in there to fund this. But I don't live there and it ain't my business, I suppose. Other than to say that your parenthetical isn't really right.
    what does she stand for?

    anyone know?
Read the speech. Read her positions. She has actually been really clear as to her stances on everything in my opinion. She has energy plans, tax/economy plans, she is FUCKING pro-life to the nth degree, she believes in small business, she believes victory in Iraq is within reach, she scoffs at suggestions of terrorists have rights, etc.
  • I hate her with a passion I thought I only had for Bush. Palin is pure EBIL!!! Any left leaning woman who votes for her purely for the fact that she's a female should be shot on sight.

It's too early, I need breakfast.......

Sarah Palin went chasing after Obama like a snarling ankle biting min-pin.

Y'all are screwed if that is all ya brought.

Sometimes, I _really_ like that man.

Other times, I think he's a complete asswipe.

    Dichotomy.

This is one of the times for the former, BTW.

  • Stewart nailed it last night.

  • Lol, those Stewart juxtapositions are great, not surprising. Obviously, that sort of thing isn't limited to the repub retards, but it is funny. Especially Stewart's defense of Dick Morris, lol! Another amusing one I've got recently is from MoveOn, where they mock Noonan and Mike Murphy for not realizing the mike was on while making disparaging comments about Palin. Of course they were singing a different tune when Jesse Jackson opined about cutting Obama's balls off, lol!
  • daver wrote: Of course they were singing a different tune when Jesse Jackson opined about cutting Obama's balls off, lol!
Meh. I think that's kind of a strawman. What tune were they singing? Everyone thought Jackson was a dumbass for thinking he could make a private aside while he was miked, and what he said wasn't particularly insightful or articulate. But there was no double standard there. It's not like liberal groups were criticizing the media for airing the material once they got it. They may not have liked what Jackson said, while approving of what Noonan and Murphy said, but this is a very superficial parallel to the juxtaposition of the Repugs that Stewart showed, where they directly contradicted themselves.
  • OMG! Are you saying that Dems never flip their positions?

As far as the Jackson thing, a funny jux would be to just take one of his Obama praise videos against the balls one.

Or take Biden's -no time for on the job training- thing against his current -Obama got it going on- one.

Take Hillary's 3am phone call against her (now) Obama has got what it takes.

Or any number of other ones.

Palin is pork-loving libertarian joke. I think it's hilarious that you tried to argue otherwise though.

    The Libertarian Case for Palin

The potential political consequences of Sarah Palin have been chewed over from every imaginable angle.

Though there is plenty to ponder, one thing is certain: libertarian-inclined voters should be encouraged. No, I'm not suggesting that your little Molly will be bringing home "The Road to Serfdom" from her (distinctly non-public) elementary school. But in contrast to any national candidate in recent memory, Palin is the one that exudes the economic and cultural sensibilities of a geniune Western-style libertarian...

    Palin's Legacy

When Sarah Palin left office as mayor of the village of Wasilla, she not only left behind the $27 million in federal earmarks that she finagled for her tiny hamlet, she left behind a legacy that would make even Ted Stevens proud. From the 2003 "mission and goals" of the city of Wasilla:
Continue lobbying efforts on Federal and State level to obtain federal and state funding for needed infrastructure projects.
After all, 6,700 people can't have too many ice hockey rinks.
  • eggcream wrote: Surely you don't believe everything you read? It's another false story in the NYT. Palin was never a member of the AIP party.
Right, her husband was a card-carrying member, and she consorted with them on a regular basis, but she just loves America right?

    Your hypocrisy amuses me.
  • Making a virtue of Palin's averageness will probably not persuade anyone apart from right wing evangies to jump on the McCain geriatric train. Palin is red meat for red meat eaters in red states.

Agreed. Unless of course Al-Queda makes another attack. Actually, if this happens I can see Bush/Cheney voiding any election results. I don't think for a second they believe McCain has the cohones to take care of bin-Laden. Palin would probably be made head of Homeland Security as a gesture of goodwill.
